Kirrie the Fit?
Allan Thomson and Bob Wallace, also known as ‘Kirrie The Fit?’ have been fundraising for Ninewells Cancer Campaign for 10 years. In that time, they have raised in excess of £25,000.
Their fundraising activities have been extremely varied and include a self-published book of Scots Doric poems/short stories ‘The Moss o’ Rora’ as well as a series of live performances across Angus, Perthshire and Aberdeenshire with ‘Kirrie the Fit?’ their own Doric comedy sketches. Most recently they recorded two CD’S with all proceeds from book sales, concerts and CD’s being donated to NCC.
It’s not just Allan and Bob who have been committed to fundraising for NCC, their families have also been actively involved in their ongoing work. The recording of their CD’s took place in a local community hall where their families cooked and served a two-course meal for all the audience as well as selling raffle tickets.
Allan says, “virtually every family will have been affected by cancer, so it seemed logical to try and help the research in some small way.”
“In 10 years of fundraising through live concerts for NCC, Bob and I met and made lots of friends. Our audiences consisted mostly of the older generation many of whom had been affected by or had lost family members or friends to cancer. Often, after a performance, they would come and say that they had brought a friend along who had not been out for six months following a bereavement but that their friend had thoroughly enjoyed themselves. This for us, made it all worthwhile.”
