    We were delighted to welcome Robyn West, a long-term supporter of the Ninewells Cancer Campaign, to Professor Petty’s public lecture. Robyn presented Lady Fraser with a cheque for £2357.50, following a performance by the Gary Barlow tribute act Dan Hadfield at Montrose Town Hall and a “meet and greet” afternoon tea event in the Pavilion Café, Montrose.

    SCIENTISTS in Dundee have uncovered important information about how ovarian cancer becomes resistant to certain treatments, according to research published recentlyin the British Journal of Cancer.

    The researchers discovered that a gene called ABCB1, which is known to play a role in resistance to the chemotherapy drug paclitaxel in ovarian cancers, also causes resistance to other ovarian cancer treatments.

    Many congratulations to Pitlochry librarian Grace Grant, recently chosen as Rotary Citizen of the Year by the local community. Grace chose to share her prize award with local charities, including the Ninewells Cancer Campaign, adding to funds raised previously raised through the sale of handmade knitted goods.

    We were delighted to welcome John Torkington, representing Auchterarder Rotary Club, to the first public Open Day at the Jacqui Wood Cancer Centre. John presented a cheque for £1000 to Dr Gillian Smith and Dr Gareth Inman, with funds raised by friends and fellow Rotarians during their recent Charity Am-Am Golf Competition, held at Auchterarder Golf Club in May 2016.

    Many congratulations to Mrs Ethel Mooney who recently celebrated her 90th birthday. In lieu of presents, Mrs Mooney asked for donations to be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Ninewells Cancer Campaign. Lady Fraser and Dr Gillian Smith are pictured receiving a cheque for £150 from Mrs Mooney, following her birthday celebrations at the Woodlands Hotel.

    The Inner Wheel Club of St Andrews chose the Ninewells Cancer Campaign as their most recent Charity of the Year. President Isobel Griffiths and members of the Inner Wheel Club visited the Jacqui Wood Cancer Centre this week, where they met with Dr Gillian Smith to learn more about the ongoing work of the centre, after her visit to the club earlier this year. Isobel is pictured presenting Dt Smith with a cheque for £1000, representing funds raised during her year as Club President.

    We were delighted to welcome members of The Rotary Club of Forfar to the Jacqui Wood Cancer Centre this week, accompanied by Lady Fraser and Aubrey Wood, Chair and Vice-Chair of the Ninewells Cancer Campaign. Following introductory talks by JWCC scientists Dr Gillian Smith and Dr Gareth Inman, Rotary President Robin Wardhaugh and visiting Rotarians toured the cancer centre to highlight recent progress made possible by the success of the most recent NCC fundraising appeal.

    We were delighted to receive a visit recently from Helen Murray, who visited the Development Office to deliver a cheque for £1368 to support the Ninewells Cancer Camapaign. Following previous successful fundraising efforts, Helen's latest fundraising initiative saw her taking part in a Skydiive - an amazing experience on a beautiful day, highlighted in the photos she sent us.     Professor Russell Petty is delighted to have appointed his first PhD student in Dundee, supported by funds raised locally by the Ninewells Cancer Campaign during their recent very successful fundraising Appeal. Morven Shuttleworth first graduated in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Dundee in 2014 and with Distinction in 2015 from the MRes Cancer Biology postgraduate degree programme run by the University of Dundee Division of Cancer Rese

    Aubrey Wood, Vice-Chair of the Ninewells Cancer Campaign was delighted to receive a cheque for £1,000 at a recent meeting of the Kirriemuir Rotary Club. The money was raised from recent sales of The "Moss O'Rora", a collection of more than one hundred Doric poems and short stories written by Rotarian Allan Thomson. This latest donation takes Allan's fundraising total to an amazing £7,500.
